National Jesuit Brothers Committee Meeting

The National Jesuit Brothers Committee met at the Jesuit Retreat Center in Los Altos California on Sunday, January 20, 2008.  Items discussed at their semi-annual meeting included the upcoming Alphonsus Experience which is for brothers in formation and will be held this June in Berkeley, California.  Additionally, the NJBC discussed other issues relating to brothers in formation and re-evaluated it's by-laws.

Jesuit Brother Wins Religious Brothers Conference Witness Award

Br. Donald R. Schlichter SJ, (MIS) won the 2007 Religious Brothers Committee Witness Award.  This award is given to a brother who has given dedicated witness to the Brother's vocation in the Church by his work and words.  By his very being he is a witness to the "Good News" of the gospel.  Witness Award Winner

 

Brother E. Glenn Kerfoot - Living A Jesuit Mission

Tools of the Trade

It’s a heady spring day, the time when young men’s thoughts turn to things other than schoolwork. Jesuit brother Jerry Menkhaus is teaching his young charges at Nativity Mission Center on Manhattan’s Lower East Side about the workings of the universe. The talk about the life cycle of stars is as all-encompassing as eighth-grade science gets.  Despite the lure of our nearest star after a long winter, Brother Jerry, as he is known to Nativity’s 60 students, gets his points across. Jesuit Brother Wins 2005 Marquette Award

Br. Dave Henderson, SJ was the recipient of the 2005 Marquette Award at Cristo Rey Jesuit High School. The Marquette Award is given each year to a faculty or staff member who contributes in a notable way to the tradition of Jesuit education.

Oct 7, 1819. The death of Charles Emmanuel IV. He had been King of Sardinia and Piedmont. He abdicated in 1802 and entered the Jesuits as a brother in 1815. He is buried in San Andrea Quirinale, in Rome.
